Frequently Asked Questions | Giulian Lyn Handmade Jewelry
Thank you for visiting Giulian Lyn! I get a lot of wonderful questions from customers at craft shows and online, so I've gathered the most common ones here. If you don't see your answer below, please reach out and I'll be happy to help.
What does "handmade" really mean when it comes to your jewelry?
Every single piece I sell is designed, shaped, and finished by my own hands in my studio in the Finger Lakes region of New York. I'm not assembling mass-produced parts or outsourcing the work. I do the wire wrapping, the stone setting, the soldering, and the polishing myself. When I say handmade, I mean I controlled the process from start to finish, and I'm always happy to answer questions about how a specific piece was made.
What materials do you use, and are they safe for sensitive skin?
I work with genuine materials only: sterling silver (stamped 925), real gemstones, Swarovski crystals, solid copper, and brass. My sterling silver is alloyed with copper rather than nickel, which makes it well-tolerated by most people with metal sensitivities. If you have a known allergy to a specific metal, just let me know before ordering and I can guide you to the best option.
How do I care for my sterling silver pieces so they don't tarnish?
Tarnish on sterling silver is completely normal and not a sign of poor quality. It's a surface reaction that happens over time, especially with exposure to moisture and air. You can remove it easily with a soft polishing cloth, or by gently washing the piece with mild soap and warm water. Store your jewelry in a dry place (a small zip-close bag works great) when you're not wearing it, and it will stay bright much longer.
